Psychoanalysis, and especially Jungian Psychology can inform us about the nature, form and function of humour, fiction and the role of the arts from a psychological perspective.

Jung has a lot to say about how Myths that provide insights into psychological states tend to re-invent themselves by each generation.

Spider man, for example, is a contemporary embodiment of Anansi, the ancient spider-god. Using the same analogy might the characters and dramas that inhabit computer games, offer insight into the machinations of the gamer’s psyche?

The virtual worlds of cyber-space are inhabited by characters as diverse as Super-Mario on the one-hand, and flesh-eating zombies with guns on the other – So how do we understand such amusements in an amusing way?
